Hunter’s approach to psychotherapy is rooted in existential philosophy - with an emphasis on strengthening the Client’s mental health immune system rather than trying to alleviate symptoms directly. The focus is on living authentically, so that thoughts, emotions, desires, and behavior are consistent with personal values. This method is based upon the premise that when a person lives purposefully and in accord with human nature, resilience to life stressors improves dramatically.
Hunter has worked effectively with Clients from diverse ethnic, cultural, and religious traditions, including persons that have experienced marginalization and discrimination in society. He has helped Clients with varying levels of mental distress - from mildly impactful symptoms to severe and persistent mental disorders. In addition to assisting individuals with mental health and substance concerns, Hunter provides unique insight due to his shared life experience with military veterans, law enforcement personnel, and other first-responders.
Individual psychotherapy sessions are in-person at the North Canton office. Early morning, midday, and evening appointments are available, with limited Saturday afternoon appointment times. In keeping with Hunter’s commitment to Client autonomy and privacy, Artificial Intelligence (AI) software is never used to record the conversation between therapist and client, or to create progress notes, psychotherapy notes, treatment plans, or other clinical documents. Furthermore, Authentic Human does not accept third-party, private insurance - all services are self pay.
